O2 has launched a new satellite connectivity service for iPhone users on its network, enabling messaging and data access in areas where cellular signals are unavailable. Starting May 28, the service utilizes Elon Musk’s Starlink satellites and is available to O2 Pay Monthly customers for £3 per month, with no additional cost for those on the Ultimate Plan. Compatible devices include all iPhones from the iPhone 13 series onward, except for the 2022 iPhone SE. The O2 Satellite service supports a range of popular apps, including WhatsApp, Google Maps, and Apple Messages, ensuring users can stay connected even in remote locations. Chris Bournes, Commercial Director at Virgin Media O2, emphasized the importance of this service, highlighting its role in maintaining connectivity during emergencies or natural disasters. With this launch, O2 has expanded its coverage to 95% of the UK's landmass, significantly enhancing the network's reach.
