Illegal driving schools in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, are facing increased scrutiny as the local transport department collaborates with the Uttar Pradesh Police to shut down unauthorized training centers. In a recent incident, Asheesh Kumar Gupta was found conducting driving lessons with only a learner's license, charging ₹4,000 for a 15-day course and claiming he could arrange a driving license for an additional ₹5,000. The transport department has seized three vehicles used for unauthorized training and emphasizes that many illegal schools lack trained instructors, vehicle fitness certificates, and commercial permits, which poses significant road safety risks. In response, the government is working to open licensed driving centers across Uttar Pradesh, including one in Lucknow, which will feature certified trainers and regulated fees of approximately ₹6,000. This initiative aims to enhance road safety and standardize driving instruction in the region.
