In a troubling incident at a Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Kaij tehsil, Beed district, Maharashtra, five women were seen recuperating on the floor after undergoing family planning surgery due to a lack of available beds. The PHC, which is equipped with only 10 beds, received 15 women for the procedure during a recent surgical camp. Health Minister Prakash Abitkar took swift action after footage of the women lying on the floor aired on national television. He contacted the PHC and spoke to one of the patients, who confirmed their discomfort but noted they consented to the surgery to avoid missing their migration for work, as nearly 80% of the local population migrates annually for sugarcane cutting. Following the minister's intervention, additional beds were procured to accommodate the patients. Medical officer Dr. Roshan Gaikwad confirmed that the health of all 15 women was stable post-surgery.
