The Uttar Pradesh Police is on the verge of a major reshuffle due to several vacancies in director general (DG)-rank positions. The recent retirement of Neera Rawat, who served as DG, has left the Economic Offences Wing and the state emergency response service 112 without a chief. Concurrently, Alok Singh, previously the additional director general (ADG) of the Kanpur zone, has been promoted to DG, highlighting the urgent need for new appointments. Despite recent promotions, several senior officers, including Prakash D, Jai Narayan Singh, and L V Antony Dev Kumar, who were elevated to DG rank in March, are yet to receive formal postings. The situation is further complicated by long-standing vacancies, such as the DG Home Guards position, which has been vacant since March 1, and the DG Intelligence role, which has not been filled since the previous incumbent's retirement. The state government is expected to address these gaps by May, with at least two DG-rank officers likely to be appointed to key positions. However, the timeline for these appointments is tight, as L V Antony Dev Kumar is set to retire at the end of May. Additional retirements are anticipated, including DG Alok Sharma in June and ADG Mutha Ashok Jain, who is expected to be promoted but will also retire in August. The upcoming changes signal a broader administrative exercise to fill critical leadership roles within the Uttar Pradesh Police.
