Tension flared outside the strong room in Barasat, West Bengal, on Saturday following allegations that CCTV cameras were turned off between 4:05 am and 8:22 am. Narayan Goswami, the Trinamool Congress candidate from Ashoknagar, claimed the CCTV system was non-functional during this critical period. In response, the Election Commission clarified that while a display monitor may have been turned off, the CCTV cameras themselves were operational. Amid the escalating situation, a significant deployment of central forces was made to maintain order, with the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) overseeing security. The Bharatiya Janata Party accused authorities of preventing their workers from entering the strong room and reported instances of pushing and jostling at the entrance. The Trinamool Congress has called for the public release of any CCTV footage to identify those responsible for any disruptions.
