Re-polling commenced on Saturday across 15 booths in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, specifically in the Magrahat Paschim and Diamond Harbour constituencies. By 9 am, voter turnout was recorded at 16.68% in Magrahat Paschim and 15.83% in Diamond Harbour. This re-polling was mandated by the Election Commission following allegations of irregularities during the initial voting on April 29. The BJP claimed that its supporters faced obstacles in casting votes in favor of their candidate in the Diamond Harbour constituency. In the current electoral battle, the BJP has fielded Dipak Kumar Halder against the Trinamool Congress's sitting MLA Panna Lal Halder, who won the previous election by a margin of 16,996 votes. Meanwhile, in Magrahat Paschim, the contest is between Trinamool Congress candidate Samim Ahamed Molla and BJP's Goursundar Ghosh. The seat has been held by Trinamool Congress since its inception in 2011. Counting of votes is set for May 4.
