Punjab police have lodged two FIRs against Sandeep Pathak, a Rajya Sabha MP, on corruption charges, with the cases filed in two separate districts. These FIRs are categorized under non-bailable sections of the law. This legal action comes just days after Pathak switched allegiance from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The BJP has condemned the FIRs, accusing the AAP government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, of engaging in political vendetta against Pathak. BJP's Punjab working president, Ashwani Sharma, criticized the AAP for allegedly using police as a tool to suppress opposition voices, stating that the registration of non-bailable FIRs against Pathak is indicative of a broader pattern of political intimidation. This incident follows the resignation of seven out of ten Rajya Sabha MPs from AAP, six of whom were from Punjab, raising concerns about the political climate in the state.
