Internet access in the EU is marked by significant disparities in pricing and connectivity. According to a recent study by Broadband Genie, Luxembourg tops the list with an average monthly broadband cost of €49.99, followed closely by the Netherlands at €48.73 and Finland at €48. In stark contrast, Romania offers the cheapest broadband in the EU at just €6.66, making it the seventh-lowest globally. The study highlights that Eastern Europe benefits from the lowest internet prices due to extensive fibre network deployment, which supports high-speed connections. Urban areas in countries such as Ireland, Denmark, and the Netherlands boast connectivity rates exceeding 99%, while rural areas in Greece, Bulgaria, Croatia, and Portugal show much lower connectivity. Furthermore, both Bulgaria and Romania have experienced substantial growth in household internet connectivity, with increases of 34% and 28% respectively between 2015 and 2025. These findings underscore the importance of geographical factors in determining internet accessibility across Europe.
