In the inaugural 2026 rankings, Japan's Summersonic Festival was recognized as the top festival in Asia and the second globally. Japan's cultural events showcased remarkable quality, with seven festivals making it to the global Top 20, including the Rock in Japan Festival and the Awa Dance Festival. The index, developed in collaboration with Purdue University and Kyung Hee University, measures festival attractiveness based on traveler satisfaction and global buzz, emphasizing the emotional experiences of attendees. Japan's dominance in the rankings reflects a shift in global traveler preferences, highlighting the importance of unique cultural experiences.
