The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has clarified that a viral claim regarding a 30% rebate on property tax for senior citizens in Maharashtra is false. The PMC stated that this misleading information, particularly circulating on WhatsApp, is not based on any official government decision. They confirmed that no municipal corporation or state government has implemented such a policy, and there is currently no state-level scheme offering this benefit. Ravi Pawar, the deputy commissioner and head of the Property Tax Department at PMC, urged citizens to refrain from believing or forwarding unverified messages, emphasizing that any official policy changes are communicated through proper government channels. The PMC warned that spreading such misinformation could create confusion among taxpayers and advised citizens, especially seniors, to consult official communication for accurate property tax information.
