The Delhi Police's special cell has successfully dismantled a cross-border firearms trafficking syndicate that sourced sophisticated firearms from Pakistan, smuggling them into India via the Nepal border. This operation, known as 'Operation Dismantle,' led to the arrest of nine individuals involved in supplying weapons to criminal gangs in the Delhi-National Capital Region and Uttar Pradesh. Among the recovered items were 18 semi-automatic pistols, two country-made shotguns, and 92 cartridges. The operation spanned 11 days and targeted key suspects, including Shahbaz Ansari and his uncle Rehan Ansari, who are believed to be fugitives. Shahbaz, previously arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, is suspected to be in Bangladesh after jumping parole. Rehan, who has a history of arms trafficking, is believed to be in Dubai. The police also seized mobile phones with encrypted communication data and laptops used by the syndicate.
