The Election Commission of India (ECI) has mandated re-polling at 15 polling booths in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal due to reports of electoral malpractices during the initial voting on April 29, 2026. The affected constituencies are Magrahat-Paschim and Diamond Harbour. ECI Secretary Sujeet Kumar Misra communicated the decision to West Bengal's Chief Electoral Officer, stating that the earlier polls were declared void based on reports from presiding officers and returning officers. Re-polling commenced on Saturday under increased security measures. Additionally, recent exit polls suggest a tight contest in West Bengal, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) holding a slight advantage over the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). In Assam, the BJP is projected to maintain a decisive lead, while in Kerala, a shift in power is anticipated with the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) expected to return to power.
