Tejashwi Yadav (Leader of the Opposition in Bihar) criticized the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government following the collapse of a slab from the Vikramshila Setu bridge in Bhagalpur on May 4. He attributed the incident to corruption, stating that the bridge had previously been marked as unsafe. Fortunately, there were no casualties, as the slab fell while no vehicles were on it. Yadav emphasized that Bihar has seen over 100 bridge collapses in the last two years, highlighting systemic corruption. Chandrashekhar Singh, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited, confirmed the collapse and noted that the responsible administrator has been suspended. A team has been dispatched to assess the situation, and IIT Patna has been consulted for restoration plans. The Vikramshila Setu bridge is a vital connection between the Purvanchal and Seemanchal regions, and traffic has been halted as alternative arrangements are being made.
