On May 3, 2023, the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (OMFED) announced a ₹4 increase in milk prices, citing rising processing and transportation costs. The price for toned milk has risen from ₹50 to ₹54 per litre, while premium milk now costs ₹58, up from ₹54. Additionally, gold premium milk is priced at ₹60, and the gold premium plus variant at ₹64 per litre. The minister for Fisheries and Animal Resources Development, Gokulananda Mallik, stated that the revised prices reflect the need to support farmers, as OMFED will purchase milk at higher rates. The price increase also applies to milk pouches, with 500 ml of toned milk now at ₹27 and premium milk at ₹29. Furthermore, farmers will receive an additional ₹1 for cow milk, bringing the price to ₹39.05 per litre, and ₹1.60 more for buffalo milk sales. Mallik assured consumers that despite the price hike, OMFED's prices remain competitive and quality will not be compromised.
