A Joint Commanders’ Conference is set to take place in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India, on May 7 and 8, where senior military leaders from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force will discuss crucial military planning and operational challenges. The meeting is particularly significant as it coincides with the final stages of the proposal for integrated theatre commands, which aims to enhance coordination among the three services. Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan indicated that the internal processes for the theatre commands are nearly complete and will soon be presented to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and the Cabinet Committee on Security for approval. The proposed structure includes appointing four-star theatre commanders, with the western command likely to focus on Pakistan, the northern command on China, and the maritime command overseeing the Indian Ocean Region. This reform represents a major shift from the current system of 17 separate single-service commands and is seen as essential for future warfare, as emphasized by the late CDS General Bipin Rawat. The upcoming conference will be closely monitored as the armed forces advance towards a more integrated command architecture.
