Kakani Govardhan Reddy, the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president for Nellore district, has formally requested an investigation into the actions of the Podalakur Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE), who is accused of soliciting bribes from farmers seeking power connections for their irrigation motors. During a protest organized by YSRCP leaders in Nellore, Reddy claimed that the AEE instructed farmers to approach a local leader from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) for a recommendation letter in exchange for the power connections. Furthermore, he alleged that the Podalakur Sub-Inspector, Hanif, physically assaulted the farmers at the behest of the TDP leader. The Superintendent Engineer of the Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (APSPDCL) has confirmed that an inquiry into the allegations against the AEE is underway. Reddy warned that he would support the farmers if no action is taken against the corrupt official and expressed confidence that the YSRCP would prevail in upcoming elections in the combined Nellore district, citing public dissatisfaction with the current coalition government.
