The Indian government has announced an expansion of the Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS), allowing final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students aged 18-25 to apply for internships. Previously, the age limit was 21-24 years. The monthly stipend has been increased to ₹9,000 (approximately $110 USD), up from ₹5,000, with additional one-time financial assistance of ₹6,000. This scheme, which aims to bridge classroom learning with practical experience, is aligned with the National Education Policy's focus on experiential learning. Internships will last for one year, and students must submit a no-objection certificate from their educational institution to confirm that the internship will not interfere with their studies. The initiative is expected to generate 10 million internship opportunities in the next five years across the top 500 companies in India, with over 300 companies already participating in the pilot phase. Interns will also receive insurance coverage under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana.
