On May 11, 2026, the Telangana unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) sought to distance itself from the POCSO case involving Bandi Bhagirath, the son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar. State BJP president N. Ramchander Rao stated that the party has no involvement and that the matter is strictly a legal issue. Kumar previously suggested that the case is part of a conspiracy against him. During a press conference, Rao also criticized the Congress government, claiming it misleads the public with false promises, contrasting it with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's focus on economic development in Telangana. He expressed confidence that the BJP could achieve electoral success in Telangana similar to victories in other states, despite skepticism. Rao also addressed allegations regarding discrepancies in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, asserting that the process was conducted properly and aimed at removing ineligible voters.
