Gandhi accused Modi of being a 'compromised PM' and suggested that his call for public sacrifices reflects a failure in leadership. In defense, BJP IT department head Amit Malviya stated that Modi's appeal is not about sacrifices but about making conscious choices for the national interest, such as conserving energy and supporting indigenous products. Malviya referenced India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, arguing that appealing to the public for responsibility is not a sign of failure but a necessary leadership quality, especially during global crises. Modi's suggestions included reducing fuel consumption, postponing gold purchases, and promoting self-reliance to mitigate economic impacts. Gandhi, however, criticized these measures as evidence of the government's failure to manage the economy effectively over the past 12 years, asserting that the public should not bear the burden of governmental shortcomings.
