Heavy rains swept across Kerala, causing widespread disruption and damage on June 6. Roads were inundated, trees were uprooted, and houses sustained damage, leading to a tragic incident where a 29-year-old man lost his life when a tree fell on a temporary shed in Thrissur's Manaloor. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a red alert for five districts—Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod—indicating extremely heavy rainfall exceeding 20 cm in 24 hours. An orange alert was also issued for six other districts. In response to the severe weather, authorities prohibited entry to tourist trekking spots and night travel on hilly roads in Wayanad, Kozhikode, and Kasaragod. Additionally, educational institutions in Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod were closed for the day. The IMD categorizes alerts based on expected rainfall, with a red alert indicating the highest level of concern for flooding and related hazards.
