The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that Odisha will continue to experience hot and humid conditions until June 9, with no significant change in temperature expected over the next three days. Isolated norwester activity may occur daily, but the prevailing heatwave is likely to persist. A trough line over central India is currently hindering moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal, leading to a spike in temperatures across the state. On Friday, Boudh recorded the highest temperature at 41.7°C, followed closely by Sambalpur at 41.2°C and Bhubaneswar at 41.1°C. The IMD has advised residents to stay hydrated and take precautions against the heat, as the humidity has made conditions feel even hotter, particularly in Bhubaneswar, where temperatures felt like 50°C. Looking ahead, the IMD anticipates an increase in thunderstorm activity starting June 11, with light rainfall expected around June 13-14, possibly indicating the arrival of the monsoon in Odisha. A clearer forecast regarding the monsoon is expected soon.
