Balkaur Singh, the father of the late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala, has called for a ban on the upcoming web series 'Lawrence of Punjab', which is set to release on April 27, 2024. Singh's demand comes alongside a formal objection from Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, the President of the Punjab Congress, who has written to the streaming platform ZEE5 requesting the immediate suspension of the series. Warring argues that the series, which appears to be based on the life of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, violates the IT Rules 2021 and poses potential threats to public order. He contends that the promotional material glorifies a criminal lifestyle, which is detrimental to the youth. Singh echoes these sentiments, questioning the societal contributions of gangsters and advocating for the portrayal of positive role models from Punjab, such as martyrs and sportspeople. He warns that glorifying criminal figures could have dangerous implications for the state's youth. Furthermore, Singh expressed frustration over the lack of justice for his son's murder, alleging that the killers receive special treatment while incarcerated. He has indicated that he will pursue legal action if the series is released as planned.
