In a tragic case from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, Shashi Ranjan Mishra, aged 45, has been accused of the premeditated murder of his twin daughters, aged 11. The girls, who were born on March 8, 2016, were killed on April 19, 2023, after Mishra allegedly planned the act for five days. He purchased a cleaver for ₹500 (roughly $6 USD) and concealed it in a wardrobe before carrying out the murders in their home. CCTV footage revealed Mishra interacting with the girls before turning off the lights, after which he sedated them with sleeping pills mixed into their food. He killed the stronger daughter first, fearing she would resist, and then attacked the second daughter after she returned from the bathroom. The girls' mother, Reshma Chhetri, was left to say goodbye alone at the cemetery, with no support from relatives. The investigation indicates that Mishra had a history of violence, having previously assaulted Reshma, and he confessed to the police that he had contemplated this act multiple times before finally executing it.
