An independent Israeli investigation has uncovered a campaign of systematic sexual violence perpetrated by Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups during the October 7, 2023 attacks and the subsequent hostage crisis. The 300-page report alleges that acts of rape, sexual torture, and humiliation were employed to maximize pain and suffering, targeting individuals, families, and entire communities. Compiled from over 430 interviews and more than 10,000 pieces of evidence, the findings detail horrific incidents where women were assaulted both alive and posthumously, with some being executed during or after sexual assaults. The report describes a pattern of violence that weaponizes familial bonds, forcing relatives into sexual acts as a means of terror. It concludes that these actions amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity, emphasizing the long-term psychological impact on survivors and their families. The commission's founder, Dr. Cochav Elkayam-Levy, stated that the documented sexual violence was a deliberate strategy executed with exceptional cruelty.
