On Monday, Chandauli police in Uttar Pradesh, India, arrested five individuals and seized 112 kilograms of cannabis across two separate operations. In the first operation, a police team intercepted a suspicious pick-up truck near Ashok Inter College, leading to the arrest of Shatrughan Chauhan (37) and Shivpradhan (40), both from Raigarh district in Chhattisgarh. They allegedly purchased cannabis at lower prices in Chhattisgarh and aimed to sell it at higher rates in Varanasi and Mirzapur. In a second operation, police stopped a car on GT Road, apprehending Hemant Kumar Saroj from Pratapgarh, Rahul Tiwari from Buxar, and Manju Devi from Gaya, both in Bihar. They confessed to bringing cannabis from Odisha for sale in the Varanasi area. Superintendent of Police Akash Patel confirmed that cases have been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and that further investigations are ongoing.
