On May 1, the retail prices of petrol and diesel in India have largely remained stable, insulating consumers from the recent spikes in international oil prices. In New Delhi, petrol is priced at ₹94.77 per litre and diesel at ₹87.67. The Indian Oil Corporation has reported that while domestic prices are unchanged, export duties have been revised: diesel is now taxed at ₹23 per litre and aviation turbine fuel (ATF) at ₹33 per litre. This comes amidst rising international oil prices, which have surged due to geopolitical tensions, particularly following the recent attacks involving the US, Israel, and Iran. Despite these fluctuations, petrol prices in cities like Kolkata and Mumbai remain at ₹105.45 and ₹103.54, respectively, while Chennai saw a slight increase to ₹101.06. Overall, the government has maintained a steady approach to domestic fuel pricing, providing relief to consumers amid global market volatility.
