On May 1, 2023, the price of commercial liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in New Delhi was raised by ₹993, bringing the cost of a 19-kg cylinder to ₹3,071.5. This increase is the largest recorded to date and marks the third consecutive monthly hike, with total increases amounting to ₹1,303 over this period. The previous hikes were ₹195.50 on April 1 and ₹114.5 on March 1. The price adjustments are attributed to soaring global energy prices, which have surged nearly 50% due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia. In contrast, the price of domestic cooking gas LPG remains stable at ₹913 for a 14.2-kg cylinder, last increased by ₹60 on March 7. State-owned oil companies, including Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum, adjust LPG prices monthly based on international benchmarks and exchange rates. Meanwhile, petrol and diesel prices in Delhi have remained unchanged since a ₹2 per-litre reduction in March last year.
