In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal for austerity, Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha has initiated a series of measures aimed at rationalizing vehicle use and reducing operational costs. The new directive mandates pooling of all ‘dak’ motorcycles and two-wheelers for essential duties only, while encouraging officers to share vehicles when attending the same court or office. Virtual meetings will replace in-person gatherings for routine reviews, aiming to cut down on unnecessary travel. Officers are also urged to utilize public transport, particularly those stationed at Police Headquarters. To ensure compliance, District Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) and Unit Heads will regularly monitor fuel consumption and vehicle logbooks to identify any abnormal usage patterns. The directive further advocates for efficient route planning to consolidate duties and reduce operational costs. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of vehicle maintenance to enhance fuel efficiency, with all official vehicles required to undergo timely servicing. Beyond fuel conservation, the order includes broader cost-saving initiatives such as reducing domestic travel expenses and prioritizing Made-in-India products for procurement. Staff are also instructed to conserve electricity by switching off unnecessary lights and maintaining air conditioning within recommended temperatures.
