Ford Motor Company has announced the return of the iconic Fiesta, set to launch in 2028 as an electric-only vehicle. This revival comes five years after the model was discontinued, and it will be built using the platform of the Renault 5, while maintaining the distinct features that define Ford vehicles. Jim Baumbick, Ford's European chief, stated, 'We hold the pen on making that vehicle unmistakably a Ford,' highlighting the company's commitment to preserving its brand identity. The Fiesta is just one of five new models Ford plans to introduce by 2029, which includes a small electric crossover and a Europe-specific Bronco that will feature a petrol-electric hybrid option. Baumbick also called for a reevaluation of CO2 emissions targets to better reflect customer preferences and the current state of infrastructure, suggesting that hybrid technologies could facilitate a smoother transition to zero emissions. This strategic move aims to expand Ford's model lineup from six to twelve vehicles within three years, responding to the growing demand for electric and hybrid vehicles in the market.
