On Thursday, police in Gaya Ji district, Bihar, seized 11 sand-laden tractors and arrested a driver as part of a crackdown on illegal sand mining. This operation was launched following a violent incident where the sand mafia attacked police officers, injuring five. The senior superintendent of police (SSP), Sushil Kumar, stated that a specialized team led by deputy superintendent of police (DySP) Ravi Prakash Singh conducted the raids in the Bareini Ghat mining fields at 4 am. Although the majority of the sand mafia escaped, Sandeep Kumar from Bathani Katari village was apprehended. The police have registered a case under various sections of the Bihar Minerals Act and the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act (MMDR). SSP Kumar emphasized the commitment to combat illegal mining and stated that all involved parties would face consequences. The police are currently working to identify other suspects through vehicle registration and intelligence gathering.
