The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of the Bihar Police has uncovered significant illegal assets belonging to Abhishek Kumar Ranjan, a police inspector in Kishanganj district, Bihar. Ranjan, who has been linked to various mafias, is accused of amassing assets worth ₹50 crore in just 17 years of service. Investigations revealed that he invested nearly ₹20 crore in real estate in Fatehpur Kanti, Muzaffarpur district, with many properties suspected to be held under 'benami' (proxy ownership) arrangements. Raids conducted in multiple locations, including Patna and Siliguri, uncovered a four-storey building valued at ₹2 crore and cash amounting to approximately ₹8.5 lakh. The EOU found evidence of Ranjan's lavish lifestyle, including expensive school fees for his son and travel to luxury hotels. His assets were determined to be 115.66% higher than his declared income. This case follows a previous investigation into another police officer, Gautam Kumar, revealing a pattern of corruption within the police force.
