According to the Solvent Extractors Association of India, the country’s vegetable oil imports rose by 13% during the first six months of the 2025-26 oil year (November 2025 to April 2026), totaling 7.94 million tons. In April 2026 alone, imports reached 1.31 million tons, which is a 34% increase compared to 975,025 tons in April 2025. The edible oils segment saw an increase to 1.31 million tons in April 2026, up by 11% from 1.17 million tons in March 2026. The value of these imports also surged, with edible oils valued at approximately ₹87,000 crore (roughly $10.5 billion USD), compared to ₹73,000 crore during the same period last year, reflecting a 19% increase.
