In a recent letter to Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, the Federation of Private Schools Association (FePSA) in Chennai has outlined several demands aimed at easing operational challenges faced by private schools. With over 5,000 schools reportedly struggling due to the non-renewal of recognitions, FePSA is advocating for permanent recognition for schools that have been functioning for more than 10 years. The association's president, M Arumugam, criticized the current renewal process, which has seen delays in issuing renewal orders despite online applications being submitted. Additionally, the association argues that existing school buildings should not be subjected to new approvals from the Directorate of Town and Country Planning (DTCP), as this requirement is not stipulated in the school education department's rules. FePSA is also pushing for a modification of the renewal period from every three years to every five years, and for the timely disbursement of Right to Education (RTE) reimbursements in two installments within the same year.
