The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) proposed a ₹121.62 crore project to repair the Eastern Express Highway (EEH) and Western Express Highway (WEH) using micro-surfacing technology. This method involves milling damaged asphalt and applying polymer-modified bitumen. The project aims to complete repairs within six months, including the monsoon season. However, during a recent meeting, corporators from various political parties expressed skepticism about the necessity of the project, suggesting a site visit to evaluate the highways' condition before making a final decision. Both highways are crucial for daily commuters, handling significant traffic volumes. The proposal also includes repairs on key bridges in the area. Despite the lowest bid being 14.90% below the estimate from M/s Microsurfacing Pavement Technologies Ltd, concerns about the rationale behind the costs were raised, particularly in light of a recent ₹25 crore tender for pothole repairs on the same highways.
