In a dramatic rescue operation in Ludhiana, Punjab, India, firefighters successfully retrieved a calf trapped in a 35-foot-deep pit on Wednesday morning. The fire control room received a distress call around 10 am, prompting a team to respond swiftly. Upon arrival, they discovered that the narrow pit, measuring only four feet wide, posed significant challenges for conventional rescue methods. Leading fireman Naresh Kumar reported that firefighter Palwinder Singh volunteered to descend into the pit, where he faced low visibility and oxygen levels. After securing ropes around the frightened calf, the team managed to lift it to safety after nearly two hours of effort. The calf, visibly shaken and dehydrated, was given water and calmed down before being handed over to the appropriate authorities. Local residents applauded the firefighters’ efforts and urged for safety measures to be implemented to cover such pits in the future. BJP leader Narinder Singh Malhi has called for recognition of the firefighters’ bravery.
