Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has disclosed that he was diagnosed with early-stage prostate cancer, which was identified during a routine medical examination following surgery for benign prostate enlargement in 2024 at Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem. The diagnosis revealed a small malignant tumor measuring less than a centimeter. Following targeted radiation therapy lasting approximately two and a half months, Netanyahu announced that he is now cancer-free, stating, “Thank God, I am healthy.” He chose to delay the announcement of his diagnosis for two months due to ongoing geopolitical tensions, explaining that he did not want it to be used for propaganda by adversaries. Prostate cancer is notably common, with around 1.47 million new cases reported globally in recent years, making it the second most prevalent cancer among men. Early detection is crucial, as the five-year survival rate for localized prostate cancer can be as high as 98–100% with appropriate treatment. Netanyahu's case underscores the importance of routine screenings, especially for men over the age of 50, who are at a higher risk for developing the disease.
