Eastern Railway (ER) is set to upgrade platforms at Howrah railway station in West Bengal, India, to accommodate longer Mail and Express trains of 22-24 coaches. The project includes the extension of platforms 14 and 15, with platform 14 now measuring 581 metres and platform 15 extended to 591 metres. Additionally, platform 24 has been extended to 635 metres with an investment of ₹3 crore. Platform 16 has also been renovated under a ₹15 crore project to ensure it can handle 12-coach trains with modern amenities. Plans are in place to extend platforms 10, 11, 12, and 13 to lengths ranging from 542 to 591 metres. The upgrades aim to enhance passenger experience, ensuring that facilities are accessible for all, including the elderly and differently-abled.
