Manoj Kumar Agarwal has been appointed as the Chief Secretary of West Bengal, succeeding Dushyant Nariala. Agarwal, a 1990-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, previously served as the Chief Electoral Officer, overseeing a largely peaceful assembly election that saw the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) win a historic 207 seats, defeating the Trinamool Congress (TMC). The BJP's victory marks a significant political shift in the state. Agarwal's appointment has sparked criticism from TMC leaders, who question the fairness of the recent elections. Alongside this change, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari allocated portfolios to five new ministers, including Agnimitra Paul, who became the first woman in the cabinet, overseeing municipal affairs and urban development. Other ministers were assigned various departments, reflecting the BJP's new governance structure in West Bengal.
