Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA representing Sanaur in Patiala district, Punjab, was arrested on Monday in connection with a mining case while already in custody for a rape case. The arrest occurred during a court appearance in Patiala, where the court extended his judicial custody in the rape case by 14 days. The police did not seek remand for the mining case, which was initiated under the Mines and Minerals Act. Pathanmajra's counsel expressed concerns that the police were attempting to re-arrest him to prevent bail in the ongoing rape case. Previously, on September 2, Pathanmajra narrowly escaped arrest during a police raid at a relative's residence in Karnal district. Despite a court order to transfer him to Patiala Central Jail, he was moved back to Bathinda Jail shortly after, prompting his lawyer to seek clarification on the transfer. Pathanmajra has been embroiled in legal issues since his initial arrest on March 24, 2023, in Madhya Pradesh.
