In an effort to alleviate traffic congestion on major roads in Lutyens' Delhi, the Delhi Traffic Police and the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) have finalized a series of engineering interventions. Following a meeting led by joint commissioner of police (traffic) Sanjay Tyagi and NDMC officials, priority measures were identified to address chronic bottlenecks. Key steps include creating central verges on roads like San Martin Marg and Janpath to curb wrong-side driving, which contributes significantly to gridlocks. Additionally, Sardar Patel Marg will see its bus stops upgraded to dedicated bus bays, preventing buses from blocking the main carriageway. Traffic management strategies will also be implemented on Baba Kharak Singh Marg, particularly near the Bangla Sahib Gurudwara, where heavy foot traffic causes congestion. To further enhance traffic flow, strict no-parking enforcement will be introduced, especially on peak days like Tuesdays and weekends. Authorities are urging visitors to utilize designated multilevel parking facilities to maintain smoother traffic conditions. Work on these interventions is expected to begin immediately.
