A new mobile application is set to revolutionize the digitization of Assamese language manuscripts and books, allowing owners to scan and upload their materials directly. This initiative is part of the 'Digitising Assam' project, spearheaded by the Nanda Talukdar Foundation and supported by the Assam Jatiya Bidyalay Educational and Socio-Economic Trust. The project has already digitized 2.76 million Assamese archival documents, which are accessible at assamarchive.org. The app, expected to launch in June, will enable users to contribute from anywhere in the world, fostering a mass movement for digitization. Foundation secretary Mrinal Talukdar emphasized that the app will make the digitization process accessible and inclusive. Additionally, the project will integrate student internships under the National Education Policy to enhance academic involvement in cultural preservation. A technological collaboration with Borno Labs and Bohniman Systems will ensure that the entire repository becomes fully keyword-searchable, enhancing accessibility to Assamese knowledge.
