On May 11, 2026, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched the Aftercare Scheme for Young Persons, aimed at providing ongoing support to youth who exit institutional care at age 18. The government has allocated ₹3.5 crore for this initiative in the current financial year. The scheme, which operates under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, seeks to assist eligible beneficiaries with higher education, vocational training, and employment opportunities. Gupta emphasized the importance of preparing these young individuals for independent living, stating that the scheme includes financial support, mentoring, counseling, and a monthly stipend. Each beneficiary will be identified through need-based assessments and individual care plans. Additionally, Delhi Social Welfare Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh announced a five-day rescue campaign to assist destitute individuals across the national capital, transferring them to Apna Ghar Ashrams for care and rehabilitation.
