The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is poised to purchase 1.94 acres of land from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) for ₹151 crore (around $18 million USD) to establish a new office complex in Chennai. The land is located within the Dinrose telephone exchange compound on Thayar Sahib Street in Anna Salai. This proposal was discussed in a meeting led by revenue secretary Arvind Shrivastava last month. Currently, the ED operates two zonal offices in Chennai, and this new facility is a response to the agency's increasing demand for office space. The ED has been active in investigating a significant number of cases, with 6,508 investigations initiated between April 2014 and December 2025, as reported to the Lok Sabha in February. Notably, 47% of these investigations commenced after April 2022, underscoring the agency's expanding workload.
