Suzlon Energy, based in Mumbai, has announced its re-entry into the European market with the launch of the Blue Sky turbine platform. This platform features two models: a 5 MW turbine designed for low-wind sites and a 6.3 MW model suitable for medium to high-wind conditions. The initiative aims to address the diverse wind energy needs across Europe, where there is an estimated 17-20 GW of repowering opportunities available. According to Girish Tanti, executive vice chairman of Suzlon Group, the company plans to leverage its existing 600 MW portfolio in Europe to offer retrofit solutions that allow for upgrades of older turbines without major structural changes, thereby making the repowering process faster and more cost-effective. As part of a broader strategy, Suzlon is also expanding its offerings to include hybrid solutions that combine wind, solar, and battery storage, along with operations and maintenance services. The company acknowledges the fragmented nature of the European market and intends to gradually build its presence there.
