A court in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, sentenced Abdul Amin, a Bangladeshi national from a Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar, to three years in prison for using a forged Indian passport and illegally registering land. The ruling was made by Special Judge Ramkripal, who also imposed a fine of ₹10,000 (approximately $120 USD). The case against Amin was initiated on March 14, 2023, following a complaint by Inspector Bharat Bhushan Tiwari of the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) Varanasi unit. Prosecutors stated that Amin, with the help of accomplices in Ballia, fraudulently obtained Indian documents and registered land in Purushottampur, located in Hooghly district, West Bengal. He also traveled to Bahrain and Saudi Arabia on two occasions using the forged passport. The investigation led to the filing of a charge sheet against him in court.
