In her open letter on LinkedIn, she highlighted that 85% of applicants for positions in her firm seek traditional roles such as equity research and investment banking, despite the diverse opportunities available in the finance sector. Gupta pointed out that emerging fields like risk management, private debt, and infrastructure investing are not only evolving rapidly but also face significant talent shortages. She noted that sales roles are often misunderstood and rarely pursued by graduates, even though they develop essential skills. Gupta advised students to rethink their career choices by focusing on future demand, competition levels, and their personal strengths. She emphasized the importance of viewing careers as long-term journeys rather than being defined by a single placement season, calling for a shift in mindset among students and educational institutions to address the talent gap in high-growth finance roles.
