The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has launched a special anti-encroachment drive named 'footpath clearance fortnight' from May 1 to 15. This initiative aims to remove illegal structures obstructing roads and footpaths, thereby reducing traffic congestion and enhancing pedestrian safety. Under the leadership of municipal commissioner Vijay Suryavanshi and additional commissioner Trupti Sandbhor, the campaign has seen coordinated efforts across various zones, led by deputy commissioner (encroachment) Atul Patil.
Operations have been conducted in multiple areas, including the F ward, where significant actions took place on May 2 and 3 along the RTO Road and Dehu-Alandi Road. In Chikhali, encroachments were cleared from Satsang Road to Pingale Chowk, while Bhosari saw actions on May 3 and 4 along Alandi Road. The drive has resulted in the seizure of numerous items, including 15 handcarts, 25 coolers, and over 100 plastic crates, which have been deposited in municipal godowns. Suryavanshi emphasized that removing encroachments is crucial for reclaiming public spaces and ensuring safer roads for citizens.
