On Saturday, the Election Commission of India transferred Gautam Das, the officer-in-charge of Kalighat Police Station in Kolkata, to replace him with Chameli Mukhopadhyay, who previously served as the OC of Ultadanga Women Police Station. This decision was prompted by a social media post in which Das appeared with an automatic rifle while in his police uniform, leading to complaints from the Trinamool Congress (TMC). TMC spokesperson Jaiprakash Majumdar criticized the post, stating it was objectionable and violated guidelines regarding police conduct on social media. The Election Commission had previously transferred the OC of Kalighat Police Station on March 29, and this marks the third transfer since the Bengal poll schedule was announced in March. The EC aims to mitigate any controversies in the Bhabanipur assembly constituency, where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is contesting against BJP Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari.
