In Guwahati, the Congress party and its allies convened a meeting to strategize ahead of the May 4 counting of votes for the Assam Legislative Assembly elections. Congress leaders, including Jitendra Singh (AICC General Secretary and Assam in-charge), urged party workers to remain alert and not be disheartened by exit polls suggesting a third consecutive term for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Singh asserted that Congress and its allies expect to secure 70 to 75 seats. He criticized the Election Commission, alleging it operates in favor of the BJP and has failed to address complaints of irregularities during the elections. The meeting also highlighted the historical inaccuracies of exit polls, recalling that predictions during the last Lok Sabha elections overestimated BJP's seat count. Congress MP Rakibul Hussain reaffirmed party unity and confidence in their strategy, while the coalition with Assam Jatiya Parishad and Raijor Dal aims to strengthen their electoral position despite recent setbacks, including the withdrawal of a candidate and the cancellation of another's nomination.
