eBay has launched its Authenticity Guarantee service for trading cards in the UK, a significant move aimed at enhancing trust among buyers and sellers. Under this new initiative, any eligible trading card sold for £500 or more will be sent to eBay’s authentication facility for inspection by Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA) before reaching the buyer. This service will include various types of trading cards, such as collectible card games and sports cards, and will expand to all trading cards by June. Buyers will receive a unique QR code attached to the card’s packaging, allowing them to verify its authenticity. Adam Ireland, Vice President and General Manager of Global Collectables at eBay, emphasized the importance of trust in the collectibles market. This announcement follows eBay's recent acquisition of Depop, a second-hand clothing app, for $1.2 billion (£890 million), aimed at appealing to a younger audience. The deal is expected to close in the second quarter of this year.
